Nancy Burres

Nancy Burres, Artist/Painter

Since my early school days in Burbank, I was always called the “artist”. I remember being scolded by my first grade teacher and given an “F” on a particular assignment because I chose to color the barn “yellow” instead of the called for customary “red” color. After first grade I was fortunate to attend schools where art was a serious subject. With quality art programs and dedicated teachers, I learned that art was a lot of work, but that I loved it.

With continuous hard work and self-discipline, and blessed with a deep appreciation, reverence and love of nature, I continue to strive for perfection in my paintings. I endeavor to communicate feelings in my paintings of serenity, warmth, cheerfulness, enchantment, and beauty.

The painting subjects that fascinate and enchant me include sunlight shafting through the redwoods, the glorious colors of the setting sun, moonlight penetrating the fog, the sparkle of light on a quiet pool of water, the peace and serenity of the forest, the fall vineyard turning to gold and red, the babbling brook after a spring rain, the welcome joy of spring blossoms, the perfection of a rose, the majestic mountain peaks towering above a meadow of wildflowers…

In the last several years I have discovered the joy and freedom of painting non-objective abstracts as well. This new discovery comes after many years painting in the traditional realistic style. For a mature artist, it is exciting to evolve and experiment in new directions. Painting this way is very satisfying to the soul, allowing one to respond emotionally rather than needing to “understand”.
