Brian Brown

Brian Brown is the sculptor responsible for that exquisitely-crafted and graceful bench holding the central setting in the plaza audience seating area. The piece is a solid construction of concrete, glass, opals and fossilized ammonites.  It is very stable and can be used as a meditation bench – or as the best seat in the house for Friday Night Live performances.
 
Brian described his piece as “a meditation on the relationship between 1,3,7 and the One. Proportions and design have been mathematically arranged to create a dynamic balance between these important numerical concepts and what they signify to the individual”.  Brian believes his role as an artist is simple: “I am inviting the viewer to look closely and see beyond the obvious. Everything is details and no aspect, no matter how small, is insignificant. I employ mathematical concepts and a variety of unique materials to create dynamic tension within the piece.   My hope is to inspire reflection in the viewer”.

Brian is a graduate of the College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program. He went on to study fine woodworking with James Krenov, and the art of compound curves for furniture construction with Brian Newell.  He has also studied the art of concrete casting and finishing with noted designer Fu Cheng.
