On Thursday, April 3, 2025, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance will continue THE Jazz Club season with the Jim Witzel Organ Trio.
Guitarist, composer, and educator Jim Witzel, a main stay on the Northern California jazz scene recently released his third album, Breaking Through Gently. The album follows Feelin’ It (2022). L.A. Jazz Scene said, "Feelin' It is a fantastic jazz album, swinging and imaginative... Witzel dazzles." UK’s Jazz Journal added, “Jim Witzel boasts the accessibility that is so vital to the connection of soul jazz with its audience. Though steeped in groove, Feelin’ It is defined by tasteful melody lines and solos.” Witzel's guitar playing is accessible and melodic but with a modern edge.
Witzel has long enjoyed the “organ trio” format in jazz (Hammond B-3 organ, guitar and drum set) as both a listener and as a working guitarist. In his second album, Feelin' It, he puts his own spin on those great recordings of the 50s and 60s (up to the present day) with a project comprising four standards, three of Witzel's originals and a well-known pop tune.
“Witzel has a warmth to his style and a precise technique that brings clarity to any melody before exploding with improvisation.” — LA Jazz Scene
